Previously on Annoying Actor Friend…
In November, I published a portion from my book regarding the death of the Full Production Contract National Tour. Then I had a run-in with the Actors’ Equity Twitter account. I was never personally contacted by anyone at AEA. Over a month later, a few audition notices were posted on actorsequity.org and I wrote about them. Thanks to your passion regarding the subject, my blog was read, shared, and sparked conversations all over social media. Over 30,000 hits in under 30 hours. 3.2 thousand Facebook shares. Radio silence from AEA.
A storm is coming. Change is about to happen and the fact that the inspiration for a movement has something to do with Newsies is a thrilling coincidence. There’s just one problem… We don’t have a Jack Kelly. We’re actually a step behind the newsboys. AEA is supposed to be our Jack Kelly, but it doesn’t appear they understand what many of us want. It’s our responsibility to let them know. Now, I certainly don’t want to be Enjolras, because we all know what happened to him. What do I suggest? Everyone attend the Eastern Regional Equity Meeting on January 10th.
Take this time to gather amongst your friends and colleagues and thoughtfully discuss what you want to bring to Equity’s attention at this meeting. Make your grievances clear and concise. Elect a representative to speak for your group.
It’s important that this meeting be two things:
2.) PACKED SO FUCKING FULL OF MEMBERS THAT WE HAVE TO SPILL OUT INTO THE HALLWAYS AND DOWN THE STREET TO THE MCDONALD’S.
So, bring your paid up Equity card to Midtown for a coffee date with 2,000 of your closest friends. The Eastern Regional Membership Meeting will convene on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2pm in the Council Room on the 14th Floor of the Equity Building, 165 West 46th Street, New York. Let’s make history.
